Dezful in Khuzestan Province has been designated a world city for its renowned Kapu weaving, a kind of coiled wicker using leaflets of palm trees, while Kashan in Isfahan Province has been listed for its notable traditional textiles, Zarghami said on social media on Wednesday.
“Global registration of Dezful and Kashan carries not just prestige but responsibility,” the minister emphasized.
“Handicrafts constitute a vital pillar of our cultural economy, and we must rectify the oversights of the past,” he noted.
With the addition of Dezful and Kashan, a total of 13 cities and 3 villages in Iran have been registered as “world cities” across various handicraft categories.
